RESEARCH- Analyse 2 film title sequences

Forrest Gump-http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/forrest-gump/

The opening of the film starts with the ident production company then after some silence a wind sound effect is produced, then a soundtrack is introduced. The camera shoots from an establishing shot of the setting of the film focusing of the feather flowing through the wind.

We are introduced to the main character (Tom Hanks) as he collects the feather and places it in his travelling briefcase. We can tell from the camera shot that the setting is somewhere in the USA due to the road crossing shown, cars and overall setting of trees and background etc.

The plot is somehow revealed slightly with the relevance of the feather and how at the start it's floating in the air. This relates to the story plot line as the feather is drifting to wherever the wind is taking it, travelling to different places which reflects on how Forrest seems to also go where the wind takes him travelling to different places experiencing new things.

The title and credits are integrated into the title sequence at the start. The first text displayed is Tom Hank's name as he is the star of the film and he is a very popular actor. This is displayed even before the title to interest the audience straight away if they like that actor and know that all the films he's in is good. Then after the main character is displayed the film title comes in in either a different type of font, colour or text size. Forrest Gump's title sequence is in a white san serif font that contrasts well with the background of the film footage.

You can tell what the genre of the film is from the atmosphere and tone used in the opening from the soundtrack and they the main character is presented and the range of shots used displaying the props used.

Flubber- http://www.artofthetitle.com/title/flubber/

The opening of the film starts with the ident production company of Disney production label then a short graphic animation comes in with an acorn falling down a tree presenting another production company. A soundtrack is introduced from the start throughout when the production company labels are shown then the soundtrack changes into a groovy fun type beat along with the fast moving text graphic animations and scientific images.

We are introduced to scientific symbols showing how it's going to be about science. The neighbourhood is shown introducing the setting to where the main character (Robin Williams) lives. When the camera enters the main character's house we see how untidy it is and how much things it contains already giving a clue about the character's characteristics. There is also an exchange of dialogue between the main character showing his mentality of forgetfulness and can be unaware of what's going on sometimes e.g. when the bin outside shoots up in the air.

The plot is slightly shown with how the scientific elements and science books in his house and inventions give away how something unnatural is due to happen. We also see how the character needs things to be done for him and reminders a lot so he knows what he's doing e.g. how his breakfast is made for him with the invention and how the voice of the character in the background is helping him.

The title credits are introduced in a fun science type way with fast moving animations transitions.

You can tell what the genre of the film is from the atmosphere and tone used in the opening from the soundtrack and they the main character is presented and the range of shots used displaying the props used.

You can tell what the genre of the film is from the atmosphere and tone used in the opening from the soundtrack how it's groovy funky and fun sounding awaiting for something big to happen and with how the main character is presented and the range of shots used displaying the props in the house and how full and untidy it is.
