pick your favorite film analyse the type of title sequence it uses

My favorite movie is "se7en" directed by David Fincher and starring Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman.  One of the main reasons as to why I find this movie the most interesting is because of the opening of the movie, which combines two different types of title sequences, making it even more appealing. Both stylised editing and credits over a blank screen is used to successfully engage the readers as the dark tone of the movie is highlighted to the audience. They then start to get an idea that the movie is going to be a thriller. However,  as credits over blank screen is also used, it gives the title sequence a more informative angle as it focuses attention on the cast names of the movie, giving them credit.

The movie se7en showed the audience most of the title credits over a blank screen.  (title sequence over a blank screen) was one type of title sequence used.  The title credits are shown over a really dark blank screen, which sets a dark tone to the movie and suggests that the genre is a thriller/mystery.  The fact the background is really dark and the title credits are white and shiny,  suggests that Kyle Cooper wants the credits to stand out, as much as possible.  The names"Brad Pitt" "David fincher" "Morgan Freeman", are really big and known names, if they are made to stand out in the title sequence, the audience will most likely be further engaged into watching the movie.  Also the fact that the background is dark, and there is white shiny writing, suggests, the tone is dark, however, there is a bright side to the movie, i.e, the serial killer will be brought to justice.  The dark blank background suggests that everyone in the movie has a dark side to them, whether they are supposed to be good, or bad.  For example, the serial killer has a dark side to him (killing people), but the bright side is the fact that he uses the 7 deadly sins, as a excuse to kill people.  Also Brad Pitt is supposed to be the hero of the movie, instead of bringing the serial killer to justice, by getting him locked up, he gets caught up in his emotions and kills him.

Even though the title sequence uses both stylised editing and credits over blank screen, the more prominent and effective type of title sequence is the stylised editing used. The way the graphics are displayed and the types of images used all play an important role in engaging the audience by expressing the key themes of the film and foreshadowing key events.  An example of this is shown in the beginning of the title sequence where an image of dirty fingers is shown, and this same image is repeated throughout the sequence. This is effective as the dirty fingers connote the dirty deeds that the main character commits and leaves the audiences eager to find out more. Also, another image which is used is a hand, which many may assume is Kevin Spacey’s,  marking out various words and leaving a trace of blank ink, then crossing the words out with a pen. This indicates to the audiences that the film will involve a serial killer as he is shown to first kill people then keep a journal of all the names he has murdered.  This is engaging as it briefly reveals only the most important events of the film, however, doesn’t give out how and why the murders take place, and this is what a successful title sequence should do.  The title sequence also emphasises the main themes of the film as various words, such as ‘transsexual’ are shown to be crossed out using a black pen. The black ink symbolises the dark theme of the film, and the fact that he is crossing out the word ‘transsexual’ manages to successfully illustrate one of the most important themes of the movie, which is the seven deadly sins.
