Why is sound so important in a film?

Sound is used to establish the tone as well as the atmosphere. This is to help the audience establish the genre of the film and to get a hint or clue as to what the storyline is.

What is sound?
Sound is everything that we hear.

What is a soundscape?
A build up of sound or a combinations of sounds.

What is sound design?
The process of generating/editing audio.

What is 'suspending disbelief'?
To believe and enjoy the film.
